FREE Vintage Scarecrow pattern and Fall leaves

Happy Fall  y'all ...

Found these colorful leaves on a tree in my yard today ...
they are aglow with Autumn colors.

I have been cleaning out and purging ... but when I found this cute Scarecrow in my daughter's pre-K coloring books ... I just could not toss it ... I had to share it ...

This a long time ago ... like, late 1950's ... early '60's.

The Scarecrow is cut out of cardboard and clothes are glued on. This is before hot glue.

Mouth and chin are drawn in with ink. The coat is two pieces, lapped and glued to the body. Collar is folded down and tacked in place. Button and pocket are glued on. Bluejeans pants with patches ... and looks like seam binding gathered up for the feet and hands but would be cute with straw, raveled burlap or raffia.  Of course, a black velvet hat that is a little moth eaten.

This could be recreated for gift tags ... place cards ... a banner by attaching the hands together or just a fun decoration.

You are welcome to print this pattern for your own decorating use.
I would love to see how you use him.

Enjoy ...

I just sat him in a table decoration and he is really cute...

DIY Concrete Pumpkin and Yard Art.Potting Table/Sink.Pouring Cement

You know ... when you pour concrete ...
you always have some left over.

So when we poured a small 3' x 10' pad/walk at the back door of our new addition to our workshop ... we did have extra concrete and I was prepared to make some concrete yard art.

I had ready ... a large glass globe that had been a swag lamp ... it had been in the yard for years and had lost most of its color ... two other small round globes ... an oleo tub ... a plastic peanut butter jar and a plastic pumpkin.

Here is what I made ...
A cement ball that is so heavy, we could not pick it up ... had to roll it to where we wanted it. It is bigger than a basketball.

Hope it will age and grow moss..........

Then ... a pumpkin ... the oleo tub using the peanut butter jar to make an indention for a candle or a plant and 3/4 into one of the small glass globes ... then we were out of left-over concrete mix.

Love how they all turned out.
(These are not fully cured, so still look a little "wet" in spots)

I added some sphagnum moss and perlite to the Quick-Crete mix as Shayna at Woodgrain Cottage did HERE

I think my mix was too thin and did not come out with the aged, cracked look as Shayna got in hers or Bliss at Bliss Ranch.

Next time, I will know ... needs to be more of a dry, clumpy texture.

Anyway ... I am pleased with how they turned out.

I added a stem that I picked up from the yard; rusty, curled metal wire; faux leaves; grapevine and moss to the pumpkin.

The 3/4 ball can be used in several different ways ...

Fall decor ...

Can put a candle or a plant in the 'oleo tub' pot.

It was coated with oleo so the finish turned out slick looking and I made the top to look rough.

Yes, I sprayed the insides of the molds with PAM.

Stacking these two pieces makes an awesome riser ...

Here are these pieces in my dug-out wooden trough ...
 can be seen HERE.

You know why I needed wanted this pad or walk ???

I needed a place to put my new old, cast-iron double sink table.

We bought this table ($15.00) from a neighbor who was moving ...
they called it their 'fish-cleaning' table ... actually, they were professional artists and I think they cleaned their paint brushes here. We repaired/removed rotted wood and painted it gray.

Anyway it has yellow cast-iron double sinks with very little counter space and weighs a ton. I plan to use it as a table for photo shoots and maybe also a potting table. The faucet is non-working and removable when I want to lay a board on it for a table.

The picket fence/gate to the left is made for recycled boards that were in my pile of saved wood.

The white crank that you see in front of the picket fence/gate is for a six foot retractable awning for those sunny hot days.

LOVE it ...

Thanks for visiting ...
hope you enjoyed my latest project ... many more to come.

Dug-out Wooden Trough Fall Table decoration

This old 4" x 8" x 42" piece of cedar board has been exposed to the outside elements for several years, maybe even fifteen. It was, at one time, destined to be a garden bench.

Thanks ladies ..................................

***********************************************************************************
This year, my goal was to clean out my collection of wood ...
either use it or toss it.
I tossed a lot ...
 ... really, I did ... but
I have also been trying to use what I can.

Mr Z. likes to carve so I took this to the workshop and ask him to carve out the middle and make a trough.

Duh, do WHAT ... how?  This is not his idea of 'carving'.

Together, we worked out a plan ...

Mr. Z. sanded the top so he could mark the cut lines.

Now keep in mind that we did not have the proper tools to carve out the center, so we used what we had and did what we could.

We used a Skilsaw to make deep cuts in the drawn-off area.
A narrow board was used as a guide for the saw.
We used a jig saw to cut across the two ends.

This was not easy, but we sure created a lot of sawdust. Cuts were not even, nor on the lines, but we got it where we could break the pieces out.

We used several different tools ... chisels ... pry bar .. hammers and was able to break the pieces out.

Not every piece broke even at the bottom, but that will not be an issue and it will always have something in it. We had to chisel-out the wood in the ends where we were not able to get the jig saw in there that deep.

I am sure there is an easier way to do it with the correct tool.
It did not take us long to get all the pieces out.

I loved how the wood had aged so I just cleaned it a little and left it natural.
It could be oiled, but for now, I like it like it is.

I wanted to keep it simple ... so not to distract from the character of the time-worn wood, so just piled it full of faux apples ... yep ... took a lot of apples, but they were almost free ... recycled from several wreaths that were discarded.

I thought it looked pretty nice.

I am using my Welch Hutch in the entry for display.
The colorful leaves under the trough were bought at Dollar Store last year and they are so nice.

But then I thought I would try these cute aged resin pumpkins I bought at Dollar Tree Store for $1.00 each.  They were bought to be used to decorate tables for a luncheon ... which didn't happen.

They looked okay ... but just needed something ... height maybe and some softness.
Love all the wood showing ...

Soooo ... I took my chicken wire cloche I made out of a lamp shade frame (see HERE) to use for height ... placed a carved wooden pumpkin in it which I stole off the front porch ...
and for softness, I borrowed three faux hydrangea out of my Fall table decoration seen HERE

Keeping the color tones the same looked really good.

Love how the ends weathered over the years.

Looks good with burlap too ... this is landscaping burlap from Lowe's or Home Depot.
Soft and easy to work with.

This end had a little rotted wood from standing on the ground so long.
Just more character to enjoy.

Several knot-holes which add to the character.

Making it pretty ...

Hope you enjoyed this little project ... just one more thing re-purposed to a good use.

Your comments make me happy.

Which display do you like the best ?

Apples ??
Just Pumpkins  ??
 or
Pumpkins with softness and height ??

I can even use it outside with my cement Fall decorations.
This project can be seen HERE.

Blessing,
