Shades of White Winter Mantel 2016

2016 Christmas Mantel ...

I had already removed the little red truck; some bottle brush trees and snowmen from the full picture above.

THEN ... my Christmas mantel was pretty easy to change to ...

a "shades of white"  Winter Mantel
I left the three beautiful white wooden columns on the right for the birds to perch on. The tall one with the finial top is a architectural salvage newel post ... the short one ... just a piece of a column and the third one toward the center was a vintage 1950/60 table lamp.

The two wooden white trees hung around a little longer for a white wintry look. I added a plug-in night light behind the columns.

On the left side, I use two vintage ironstone pitchers, one with white, yellow and green pip berries. The chippy terracotta riser gives height to balance with the tall columns.

I found these two fan-shaped architectural brackets in my storage and they were the perfect backing for my antique kitten doorstop.

Of course, I have to leave my tiny white lights because the mantel is so dark without them.

In the middle under the beautiful carved wooden frame, is a vintage oak-splint market basket filled with faux, dry-look hydrangea. The frame was left empty for awhile, but just had to add my dried artichoke bunch tied with a burlap bow that I made years ago.
(hot glued to the rock)
I had to replace several missing pieces of the splint and paint it white. Hope to post how I replaced the pieces in another blog. I added a string of white lights in the basket and pulled some up into the flowers.  Love how the light shines through the basket.

To get the aged look, I did a wet-wipe while the paint was still wet.
The wooden tree is in two parts and just slides together.

More architecture pieces on the hearth.

 Still enjoyable at night.

Thanks for your visit.
Hope you will let me know you were here.

It must be SPRING Mantel

Trees are blooming ... getting green leaves and pollen ...
... it must be Spring!

Time to start some SPRING in the house by making the mantel bloom.

I hung my favorite summertime oil painting of Spring flowers for inspiration. I wanted to pull the aqua and yellow to create a simple, light and airy look.

I had yellow tulips, yellow chicks ... aqua Mason jars and a link of  metal flowerbed fencing that I had bought at the weekly 25¢ Thrift Store Sale ... yes for 25¢ ...

Sooooo, I zigzagged  the metal fencing across the mantel.
It is covered with a thin coat of plastic which is brittle and making a mess all over the place, but it looks very time-worn-shabby and I love it.

... in the aqua Mason jars, I added eggs, lemons, Easter grass and stuck three yellow tulips in each and placed them in the zig or zag of the fence.

Rather than take a chance on misplacing the zinc lids taken off the Mason jars ... I just turned them over and stuffed grungy Primitive cotton rabbits in them ...would not be Easter without some "Prim" rabbits ...

... and some pretty fuzzy yellow baby chicks ... and

... birds and bird nests ...

of course ... must have some tiny white lights to shine/show off the pretty jars.

The garden theme continues on the hearth.

 Happy Spring ...........

This header from an antique piece of furniture had some of the same colors to inspire me but could not find a good place to hang it. It just sits on the hearth to be enjoyed.

Design is carved and not applied ... painted ages ago by a lady who did more recycling and re-purposing than any of us will ever do.

Hope you enjoyed our Spring mantel.
Thanks for stopping by.
Your comments make me smile.

Blessings ...

Summer Fun ... Games and Fireflies Mantel

Summer Fun ... Games, Lightening Bugs, (Fireflies) Mantel

This large floral painting sets the mood with the feeling of freshly picked flowers, bringing the sunshine and happiness in.

This is the third time I have decorated the mantel for Summer this year. Two failures ... third time is a charm.

You can see number two HERE ...
... number one ... not photographed.

An old wonky bicycle basket filled with croquet balls and these two time-worn mallets remind me of Summer fun.

... jacks and ball too.

My daughter made me a wonderful memory book several years ago (EIGHT, exactly) … and included this email I had sent her in 2005.

 A note from Mom (that’s me) …
dated June 6, 2005 … 7:48 p.m.

" I have been on the front porch eating my tuna sandwich and pickled beets … (great combination … ha)

… and watching the fireflies moving in to light up the night.
IF I WERE A KID …
I would run in the kitchen and get an old Mason jar and catch a jar full of fireflies.

Then I would find one of my Mom’s old worn-out quilts ...
... spread it on the grass …

... let the jar of fireflies light up the darkness and
watch the beautiful sky and the sparkling stars.

IF I WERE A KID ... ???

... well, those days are gone forever … but I can still remember the fun time of my youth.

Hope your night is lit by the beauty of the fireflies and you have a peaceful evening.
Love U ... Mom"

Chasing Fireflies (Lightening Bugs).
Watching the stars.
Old Quilts.

Croquet.. an outdoor game where players use a long-handled mallet to drive a wooden ball  through a series of metal hoops placed in the ground.

Love using cement birdbath or yard ornaments in the house.

Thanks for visiting ... hope my Summertime mantel stirred some good memories for you.

Love your comments ...
Did you love catching lightening bugs (fireflies)?
What was your favorite outdoor game?
Did you ever lay on the grass watching the stars and making wishes?
Tell me about your favorite childhood game ...
