Natural objects and the soft colors ... Fall Mantel

This wonderful old, time-worn wooden dough bowl and my collection of faux pear is one of my favorite decorating pieces.

It takes center stage on our Fall mantel which is littered with bleached leaves that I did a couple years ago. Just picked up fallen leaves, put them in bleach water and watched the magic.
The canvas wrapped floral of white Fall chrysanthemums set the tone for a natural soft colors.

On this side is a collection of vintage items that echo the colors in the picture.
*the vintage rusty harrow hand tool, adds a little rustic charm ..
*a crock with a rusty color around the bottom and a wire repair around the neck ... perfect reflection of the Fall colors
*the white section of a porch column is a perfect perch for the potter bird, echoing the white of the mums and the warm browns ...
*the large wooden lid from a food storage barrel is a great backdrop with the warm brown color.

this side ...
* this old yellow crock picks up a little color from the center of the mum and with a tall branch, adds a little height ...
* white alabaster grape cluster ... like the white in the mums
* old red cast iron pot filled with cinnamon sticks; an apple and white mums pull just a little bit of color from the pear ...

* on the hearth ... my cement little boy garden statue enjoys the large metal pumpkin nestled in a bed of raffia in an aged metal urn ... small black object is an iron fly (match holder)
* the soft green metal piece in the background is a screen guard off a vintage screen door.

 * on the coffee table ... another natural object ...
* the brown and tan alabaster sleeping cat is happy under this grassy cluster in the recycled cement and mortar vase.

* this piece was created with leftover cement and mortar (mud) used to make the pan in the shower when we remodel the master bath. I used a glass light fixture shade and poured the left-over cement mixture in ... it only filled about one-third of the shade. Next day or two, when the tile man discarded his black mortar, I grabbed it and because it had started to dry, I had to just pack it in ... hence the cavities
I stuck a plastic jar in the opening to make an indention. I let it cure for several days before I broke the glass shade. I cut the top of the plastic bottle off which left a nice plastic-lined well for flowers or a plant. I think it made an interesting vase/object.
Enjoying this vignette on my little kitchen table.

* favorite vintage paper mache pumpkin ... acorns from the yard and a few of the bleached leaves makes an interesting arrangement on my stack of pig cutting boards ...

Happy Fall y'all !!!
Thanks for stopping by ... hope you like our Fall mantel and you will say hello before you leave.

Fall Mantel ... Wicker basket, bottles, Pumpkins, Crock

Featured by: Mrs. Hines Class.
thanks Sharon

..............................
Not yet November and I have changed my mantel three times.

I love to display this lovely picture for the Fall season. I picked objects with the colors that are in the picture to decorate our Mantel.

Grapevine pumpkins ... wicker woven bottles and vintage splint oak market basket.

I decided the mantel needed a little more so I swiped the grapevine and my garland of painter's dropcloth leaves from my Fall table and used it here. Tutorial can be seen HERE

(Now I have an excuse to do another table decoration).

Sitting atop my little red wagon, is the lighted Palm tree leaf pumpkin that I made ... see the inspiration tutorial here, Karah is one crafty lady. Check her out. The Space Between

I did make another Palm leaf pumpkin and my tutorial can be seen here ...

The large vintage splint oak basket on the left was recently purchased at Find's Thrift Store for $5.00 ... a very good buy. I have several of these and was happy to add it to my collection.

The yellow painted crock on the right was purchased off eBay years ago for $12.00 ... unbelievable good deal.
It is one of my favorite crocks.

This little guy is always happy to be part of the hearth decoration.

Farmer's Market Fall Mantel, Old Country Store Price Tags

Farmer's Markets are always a busy place and so is my Fall mantel. The crows and mice are all over the place.

My PhotoThis blog was show-cased by

My vintage wire gathering baskets usually just sit around under a table; in a corner or some other unnoticeable place ... so I thought I would showcase them on my Fall Mantel.

I just love the vintage County Store price tag
graphics that Angie at Knick of Time offered up in her free printable graphics and this inspired me to do the Farmer's Market Mantel. I just used what I had from last year.

I have always wanted to put these tall iron candlesticks on the Mantel, but they always seemed too tall and lighting the candles that high was a problem. Displayed with the rattan covered pumpkins worked out nicely.

The first two wire baskets are for real, antique gathering baskets bought from a person who actually used them.

Left to right ... the tiny aqua fruit jar is filled with red seeds from our Mountain Laura tree. Bet you missed seeing that.

The small basket with the 3for25¢ price sign is a wire basket used in a deep fryer. I bent the handle up straight so that it would hang flat against the wall. I copied Angie at Knick of Time
She has them hanging in her Kitchen. I had mine hanging in my breakfast room with lemons before using it in this display.
This is a better picture of the wire basket.

The basket below with the colorful pear is a crinkle wire apple gathering basket. The old crow decided this was a perfect place to sit and observe what is going on.

Every Farmer's market needs a good scale.

This large basket in the center is very open and has holes about the size of a nickle in the bottom so the dirt from the harvested potato can sift through. I have it filled with old gourds and they are 26¢ each.
The last basket
is filled with apples for 4½¢ each. I bought it off eBay many years ago because I thought it was a mate to my other apple picking basket ... but so happy and surprised that it was quite a bit larger. As I recall, I got a really good deal on it.

The other tall candlestick balances out the right side. They are cast iron candlesticks, hand made, most likely in Mexico and was given to me by my dear friend, Katie.

My hand painted sign on old weathered beaded board ... the berry wreath and old chippy green garden gate set the center stage. Colorful gourds, acorns and hydrangeas fill in the gap between the baskets.

My daughter says she wants to shop my Farmer's Market ... she likes the prices, but I think she wants the baskets.

This vignette is sitting on the hearth.
The little guy is so heavy, he does not get moved around very much.

Dollar Store mice are eating the corn. The crow left when the second mouse showed up.
One crow in nestled in the plant in hopes of getting some corn off the drying rack.

Hope you enjoyed my first time to do my Mantel in symmetrical display ... has always been asymmetrical with a large picture; wreath or mirror to one side and some other large piece on the other side to balance it. I prefer asymmetrical, but I know the proper way is symmetrical.

What do you prefer ?
How is your Fall Mantel coming along?

Oh my gosh ... I forgot Burlap ...
What was I thinking ????????
  Thanks for stopping by.
Appreciate your comments.

Hope you days are filled with cooler weather and Fall is just days away.

Blessings,
