Natural objects and the soft colors ... Fall Mantel

This wonderful old, time-worn wooden dough bowl and my collection of faux pear is one of my favorite decorating pieces.

It takes center stage on our Fall mantel which is littered with bleached leaves that I did a couple years ago. Just picked up fallen leaves, put them in bleach water and watched the magic. 

The canvas wrapped floral of white Fall chrysanthemums set the tone for a natural soft colors.    

On this side is a collection of vintage items that echo the colors in the picture. 

*the vintage rusty harrow hand tool, adds a little rustic charm ... 

*a crock with a rusty color around the bottom and a wire repair around the neck ... perfect reflection of the Fall colors

*the white section of a porch column is a perfect perch for the potter bird, echoing the white of the mums and the warm browns ...

*the large wooden lid from a food storage barrel is a great backdrop with the warm brown color. 

this side ... 
* this old yellow crock picks up a little color from the center of the mum and with a tall branch, adds a little height ...
* white alabaster grape cluster ... like the white in the mums
* old red cast iron pot filled with cinnamon sticks; an apple and white mums pull just a little bit of color from the pear ...

* on the hearth ... my cement little boy garden statue enjoys the large metal pumpkin nestled in a bed of raffia in an aged metal urn ... small black object is an iron fly (match holder)
* the soft green metal piece in the background is a screen guard off a vintage screen door.

 * on the coffee table ... another natural object ...
* the brown and tan alabaster sleeping cat is happy under this grassy cluster in the recycled cement and mortar vase.
 

* this piece was created with leftover cement and mortar (mud) used to make the pan in the shower when we remodel the master bath. I used a glass light fixture shade and poured the left-over cement mixture in ... it only filled about one-third of the shade. Next day or two, when the tile man discarded his black mortar, I grabbed it and because it had started to dry, I had to just pack it in ... hence the cavities. 
I stuck a plastic jar in the opening to make an indention. I let it cure for several days before I broke the glass shade. I cut the top of the plastic bottle off which left a nice plastic-lined well for flowers or a plant. I think it made an interesting vase/object. 

 Enjoying this vignette on my little kitchen table.

* favorite vintage paper mache pumpkin ... acorns from the yard and a few of the bleached leaves makes an interesting arrangement on my stack of pig cutting boards ...
